Emsi publishes Claimant Counts data in various places in Analyst/Developer. What follows is an overview of Claimant Counts data.
Full Claimant Counts (Economy Overview)
This measure counts both people claiming Universal Credit and people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance: “This experimental series counts the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance plus those who claim Universal Credit and are required to seek work and be available for work and replaces the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance as the headline indicator of the number of people claiming benefits principally for the reason of being unemployed.”*
JSA Claimant Count (Economy Overview)
The JSA Claimant Count counts recipients of Jobseeker’s Allowance for the reported month. This figure includes only those claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, not those claiming Universal Credit.
Jobcentre Plus Claimant Counts (Occupation Snapshot)
These counts are equivalent to the JSA Claimant Counts metric described above. However, the counts in the Occupation Snapshot are particular to the occupation(s) selected in the report setup. Again, this figure includes only those claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, not those claiming Universal Credit.
