Percentile earnings- explained

A percentile is a number where a certain percentage of the figures concerned, fall below that percentile.

Let’s look at an example-

Lets imagine there are 100 people in a given area that work as florists and we are going to line them up in order of how much they earn, the lowest at one end and most at the other. If we wanted to look at the 25th percentile we would look at how much the 25th person in our line earns- as per our example below, they earn £8.56/hr.

This means we can start to gather a better representation of the data that we are looking at. If the first person was an apprentice and the last person was a millionaire, their results would skew our data and won’t tell the true story of how much you could earn being a florist.
